The Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association (CMJA) Conference was held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Centre in The Gambia from September 21 to 26, 2025, welcoming 316 delegates and 44 accompanying guests under the theme “Innovations in Judicial Practice: Embracing Change for the Future.”
The Conference was opened by President Adama Barrow, with a keynote address from Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow, and underscored the importance of strategic and inclusive judicial innovation in addressing contemporary challenges such as rising caseloads, digital evidence, cybercrime, and access to justice.
Sessions covered a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence in the courts, sentencing guidelines, judicial well-being, disciplinary processes, specialized courts, and international judicial cooperation, with expert speakers from across the Commonwealth.
Cultural programming, community engagement initiatives, and the inaugural CMJA Walk for Health complemented the professional sessions, making the Conference both impactful and enriching.
A full report from the Association’s delegates will be shared with members soon.
