Justice Clayton Conlan was officially elected President of the Asian, North American and Oceanian (ANAO) Regional Group and Vice-President of the International Association of Judges (IAJ), reflecting the continued leadership of the Canadian judiciary on the international stage.
The General Assembly of the IAJ was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from October 12 to 16, 2025, and brought together judges from around the world, including several Canadian colleagues. Participants contributed to the development of IAJ Study Commission reports addressing key issues facing judiciaries globally, including:
- The increased presence of self-represented litigants in civil matters and its impact on the administration of justice
- Therapeutic and restorative justice in criminal law and procedure
- Judicial resources and the impact on judicial independence
- Non-competition and loyalty/confidentiality rules in a global economy
Members are encouraged to review the findings of these Study Commissions, which are available on the IAJ website.
