The CSCJA will be represented at two international judicial conferences later this year.

The International Association of Judges (IAJ) will hold its annual congress in Lisbon, Portugal, from October 14 to 21, 2026. The Canadian Judicial Council has authorized funding for four federally appointed judges to attend under section 41(1) of the Judges Act. Canada holds a prominent role within the IAJ, with Justice Clayton Conlan serving as President of the ANAO Regional Group and Vice-President of the IAJ.

The Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association (CMJA) will hold its annual conference in Kingston, Jamaica, from September 20 to 24, 2026. The CJC has authorized funding for three federally appointed judges to attend.

Members who hold individual CMJA membership are encouraged to attend. Those interested in joining the CMJA can do so directly on the CMJA website for £65 (approximately $120 CAD) per year. There are currently approximately 60 Canadian members.

Reports from the conferences will be shared within Member News this fall. You are also encouraged to review the reports of the IAJ study commissions, which CSCJA members have contributed to. These are a valuable benefit of our membership in the IAJ.
