As a CSCJA member, you have access to a curated suite of programs designed to support your health, well-being, financial security, and travel needs. These benefits are offered exclusively to CSCJA members and, where applicable, their eligible family members.

CSCJA Supplementary Health Care Insurance Plan (Sun Life Policy #16974)
CSCJA members are eligible for exclusive and advantageous rates on a supplementary health care insurance plan that is unique in Canada.
This unique insurance plan supplements the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) with benefits such as unlimited home nursing care, travel, hospital and other health care. Premiums are deducted from your payroll prior to retirement (personal pre-authorized debits required after retirement). The CSCJA is the sponsor of the plan, which is underwritten by Sun Life and administered by The Prosure Group.
Eligibility
- Available to judges with valid CSCJA membership upon appointment.
- If you enroll within 90 days of appointment, no medical evidence is required.
- Enrollment after 90 days requires medical evidence unless an “open enrollment period” is offered.
- Coverage may continue into retirement if you were enrolled before retiring. (You must let The Prosure Group know that you are retiring so that your premium can be collected through preauthorized payment.)
- You cannot enroll after retirement, and cancelled coverage cannot be restored.
- The Manulife portion of the Emergency Health Travel Insurance ends upon retirement.
Key coverage features
This plan supplements the coverage under the PSHCP unless noted. See how the coverages coordinate between the two plans.
- Hospital rooms: $100/day for semi-private or private accommodation*
- Out-of-Province/Out-of-Country emergency care: Up to $200,000 for trips of up to 40 days
- Vision care: Up to $500 every two years*
- Eye exams: Up to $50 every two years*
- Hearing aids: Up to $1,500 every 5 years*
- Physiotherapy: Up to $1,000/year*
- Personal Support Worker/Homemaker: 20 hours/week, up to 24 hours/day when hospitalized
- Unlimited Private Duty Nursing at home, medically necessary and pre-approved by PSHCP*
- Two-year continuation of spouse’s coverage at no cost to them in the event of member death
* Per covered family member
The Supplementary Health Care Plan is Sun Life Policy #016974 and is administered by The Prosure Group.
How claims work
- Submit eligible claims to PSHCP (Canada Life) first: vision care, hearing aids, hospital rooms, physiotherapy, and nursing care.
- Once reimbursed, send the Explanation of Benefits and the completed Extended Health Care Claim Form to: cscja@prosure-group.com
Personal Support Worker claims
Submit directly to Sun Life (no PSHCP coverage):
- First submission must include a physician’s note confirming medical need.
- If recently hospitalized, the note should include your discharge date.
- Receipts must include provider name, dates, hours worked, and hourly rate.
- Submit the completed Extended Health Care Claim Form to: cscja@prosure-group.com
Online Claims Submission
You can submit CSCJA claims through Sun Life’s secure online portal.
If you have never had a Sun Life online account, register using Policy #016974 on Sun Life’s Member Registration page.
If you previously had a Sun Life account for personal products or through the PSHCP, call Sun Life at 1-877-786-5433 to restore access for the CSCJA plan. They will assist with:
- Email verification
- New access ID
- Security setup
- Password reset
If you have the old PSHCP Sun Life app, delete and reinstall before logging in with your CSCJA access ID.
If Sun Life cannot locate your record, contact The Prosure Group for assistance.
Out-of-Province / Out-of-Country Emergency Health Care
Administered by Global Excel and underwritten by Manulife Policy #PCO00013536, this benefit protects you while travelling for longer periods.
Coverage
- Trips 40–120 days outside Canada/your province
- Up to $5 million in emergency medical coverage
- Pre-existing condition clause applies for ages 70–75
- Not available after retirement
